Big Flat was Big.

The mountains are big, the
hike was big, the trees are big, my blisters are big, the moon was big, the
swell was big, at times…the flat is big.
We had a blast. Super
smooth drive up, got everything packed right. Headed out on Friday
afternoon around 1:30 and showed up in camp just after sunset to a full moon
rising. Sick.

Woke up on Saturday to
incredible conditions with minimal swell. Watched it pick up all day long,
the tide dropping, sets picking up, got in the water at around 2 and took
one break and surfed until dark at 6. Super fun, sets off the top, low tide
inside bowl was reeling, outer bowl was shifting and lining up real nice.
We had a great session, Me, Mike and Jarod, with Team Jetski/Waverunner/hike
dodger and a few others.

It wasn’t until day 2
that the Team JWHD started to vibe me heavy. One of these nuts is so
delusional that he was thinking that because it’s “his” spot and he gets to
ride in on some damn jet ski that he can drop in on whomever he pleases,
in fact he feels it is his duty to relegate hikers (and in his defense, he
was targeting hikers who film) to the “leftovers”. This guy dropped in on
me blatantly about 3 times and I saw him get Mike once really bad too.

As if it isn’t enough
that this ass gets to surf a great wave all the time…some people are
really messed in the head.
We made the best of it.
We really expected the swell to pick up as predicted on Sunday, but the
buoys did not comply…they maintained 7-9 feet, but dropped in period to
12-13 seconds…so Sunday was spotty for sets. The afternoon lowtide pulled
through and delivered some goodies, some racers through the inside, and it
became my mission to make the asshole watch me on as many set waves as
possible, so I was taking my time and trying to get the best ones.

An epic place to visit, a
hike to end all day hikes, a mecca of surfing though for sure, everyone
should hike and surf this place at least once in their life. It needs a lot
of swell and handles a lot of swell so get it when it’s pumping.

Here are some shots from
our trip. Not many shots of surfing, we respected the locals even though
they disrespected us. It makes me more and more sick the more I think about
it. And the messed up thing about it is that it’s not the film that gets
out that is going to make that place crowded, it’s the access. These
tweaks on their jetskis are getting the goods now, but they are ruining it
for future generations of surfers there. Real locals would be hiking and
heckling the easy access guys…so it goes.

So i made it to Dubai...India
was just indescribable...way too much...well, so is Dubai in
fact. I got a Dubai temporary driver's license today, Arabic writing, so
whacky, Arabs are pretty crazy, i mean you thought the DMV was nuts...I
walked into the transportation department today at 1:20, they close at
2, there are 3 other people in there, the guy looks up from his desk in
disgust and tells me to come back tomorrow, it is too late today...I'm
like whoa man it's only 1:20 you know and he says in disgust OK, sit
down. He does this to the next 3 people that show up and i'm just
tripping. The rest of the story is classic too, i end up standing
in front of the 3rd and final beurocrat that i need to face to get this
license so i can get a rental car and the guy is closing shop and
telling me to leave, but i just stand there while he counts money and
pushes paper closing out his day until he finally breaks and says "give
your paper work", he only says one more thing to me, "110", the amount that i owe him and then gives me the papers...i get my picture taken and 2
minutes later i have the license i need.
Then over to the Mall of the Emirates to
rent the car...easy. Then i walk around the biggest mall outside
of America to check it out, 3 floors of stores i have no desire to step
one foot in, except well maybe one...and i think i'll wear my
snowboarding boots...Ski Dubai is in a MALL...so insane, it
looks classic, i was able to peak up into the beginning of the 1st run
and they even have rails and little kickers built up for the "experts".
We plan on hitting that on friday.
Checked the W report and we might see 1-3' W swell on Thursday, we are
going to a waterpark tomorrow that has one of those flowrider standing
waves. Other than that cranes are everywhere in the sky line that
it's not even funny, they have completely ruined the offshore
environment and killed any chance for swell in Dubai with 3 faux Palm
Tree Islands and the map of the world island thing they have
going...this place is just nuts, oh and cocktails and beers are like
$10-20 a pop...I don't think I'll ever come back.
I wrote you guys 2 letters in Delhi, but i lost both of them, they were
good too...anyway, the jist of it was that i had a brutally long and
tired arrival in Delhi, had to wait to get my hotel room for 5
hours. Finally got some sleep, woke up at 5:30 and saw some kids
playing cricket down in the park across the street. Went down to
check it out, sat on a park bench in the outfield that quicly became the
place to hang while you were waiting out your turn to get back in the
game (there were too many kids for the 2 games that were being played so
the kids rotated in and out, and Indian kids LOVE to hang as close as
possible to Westerners) so i kicked it and tried to talk to some of
these kids but they couldn't speak English...so 2 games were going on
sharing the same outfield but playing at 90 degrees to each other.
As the sun was going down, one buy drives a line drive to the outfield,
luckily i was watching that game and i saw the tennis ball coming
straight at me...I literally stayed with my seat stuck to the
park bench, reached out my right hand and nabbed the line drive fly ball
one handed. Threw it back to the pitcher and the kids were going bananas,
the kids that saw it were explaining it to the kids that missed it and i
was the star of the show for a few minutes, they even asked me if i
wanted to play, but i was still sick as a dog from huffing so much
second hand cigarette
smoke in France and i was jet lagged and not feeling up to it...but i
did have my moment of cricket fame.
The rest of India was amazing, my favorite part was being able to rent
motorcycles for $6/day in Goa without any paperwork whatsoever, literally
over a hand shake we had keys in hand and were driving away...and
driving in India is another story all together, but i just couldn't
believe that.
Anyway, more to come as Dubai unfolds.

Pics will probably not be making
it, maybe if i can find an internet cafe tomorrow that will allow me to
connect a USB...
I rolled in tonight to the SICKEST hotel
EVER....The Rider's Palace at the base of Laax, Switzerland.
I walked into the lobby and found a bar, a cute
receptionist, and a 15' x 10' 4x3 screen with snowboarding films proejected
24/7....epic. It's high season so without a reservation i was only
able to get a bed in a room with 5 beds, but it's cool with me. They
have multi media rooms that are 2 rooms joined with plasma or
projection...they have it all.
I rode St Moritz the last 2 days...all
piste...sorry to say that it looks like my pow days are over.
I'm beat and getting over a cold and sore
throat so i'm taking tomorrow off, going up to some thermal pools to chill
and relax and check some scenery.
Late.

So the helmet cam didn`t work
out for me this trip, I'm not sure what the happened, but we took some from
the bottom of 2 steep lines that we just destroyed yesterday with insane-o blue bird....phenomenal....once again i am just BLOWN away by the
generosity of the Euros, leaving the off piste chutes just lonely as can be.
We have just been owning them, we rent them out to the occassional Euro
charger or travelling villain, but for the most part they have been ours for
the taking and we have been taking them, oh my have we been taking them...
I am about to get on a 6 hour train bound for St
Moritz, I will work on the helmet cam. I will hopefully get some screen
captures to you guys soon. We rode for 7 hours straight yesterday
without stopping, 10-5...by the time we got down the mountain, enjoyed a
beer and sunset apres at the lodge, we barely made the end of 2 for 1 pints
happy hour at the Monkey Bar...close one, and i didn't have any time to get
to the internet cafe.
Another blue bird day today, but the sun was too
warm yesterday so it was not nearly as good as yesterday, but we still found
the goods off piste.
I think i have spent about 10% of my time on
piste, seriously, it is just insane, and they have no snow here right now
compared to the usual levels....normally you can ride all the way down
through the trees and chutes to the village, we were having to get on the
"bubble" and ride down.
Took my first tram ride today too, unreal where
they put these trams and the cement is so old it is cracking all over on the
tower bases, classic Euros...
Mad Dogg, you would absolutely freak in the
lift lines, it's just like the riots back at NHS....everybody is pushing,
there is zero order to the madness and everyone is smiling...good stuff.
Peace.
